AIO (AI Optimization) for Website Content

AI is evolving at speed of light 🤖  from dancing puppy conga lines to writing LinkedIn posts. But let’s talk about how optimizing your website for AI can help you show up better in Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT recommendations, as well as traditional search results.

The good news? You don’t need to chase every trend. The secret sauce is sticking to tried-and-true SEO basics (what I call the must-dos) to naturally and  improve your AIO–AI Optimization.

SEO = AIO love. 💛

10 Essentials to Boost Your AIO (and SEO)

Here what’ Google shared on this topic, the TLDR version + my 2 cents here:

  • Provide a great experience: ✅ Are your forms working properly? Can visitors find what they need without lots of searching? Are there any broken links?
  • Focus valuable content: 🎯 What are people looking for? What’s most important for them to know? Create blog posts that answer the questions your clients actually have.
  • Write unique content: ✍️ If you use AI to help write content, be sure to review, edit, and reword it so it matches your brand voice and is relevant to your services and clients. TIP: Write a blog post first, then give it to ChatGPT to review, make suggestions, and even create short social share snippets.
  • Follow best practices: 📌 Make sure your site meets privacy, accessibility, SEO, and other standard guidelines.
  • Ensure visibility: 👀 Check that your main pages and posts are visible to search bots—and, of course, your visitors
  • Create human-friendly content: 🗣️  Write clearly as you would speak, break up long text into paragraphs, and get to the meat of the topic. Avoid complicated jargon that confuses readers.
  • Use structured data: 🛠️ Include structured data markup so search engines clearly understand what you do and who you are, and make sure it (the structured data) matches the content on the page.
  • Organize your content: 📝 Use headings and a logical structure so both search bots and readers can easily follow along (think H1s, H2s, FAQs).
  • Keep your site secure, fast, and optimized,a reliable web host can make a big difference in speed and security.
  • Update regularly: 🔄 Refresh your site as things change such as services, team members, or new content so it stays accurate and helpful.

BONUS TIPS:

  • Use keyword-friendly titles and meta descriptions.
  • Add Alt-text to your images.
  • Promote your content: share your pages and posts via email, social, and groups. TIP: 12 Small but Mighty Things You Can Do To Increase Your SEO Reach
  • Ask clients for reviews on your Google Business Profile.

Test your website.

When I tested how my client Pål showed up in Google’s AI results, I searched “best guide in Norway for North Americans” and thanks to his SEO foundation and great content, he ranked #1 in the results!

While those results may change over time, it shows how consistent best practices and optimized content can really pay off. SEO-focused copy included with his project also gets the blue ribbon here.
